Wake Up, Baby

Alone

She said:

Wake up, Baby

Its morning

I really had a good time last night

But my boyfriends on his way home

You gotta go

What am I doing this for?

Sneaking out another back door

Good enough to take home at night

Not enough to stay in the day

I tell myself that I’m the Man

‘Cause another chick just got slayed

But as I get ready to go

All I wanna do is just stay

Don’t wanna go home alone

Got nobody to share my day

I gotta stop doing this mess

Why did she have to say:

Wake up, Baby

Its morning

I really had a good time last night

But my boyfriends on his way home

You gotta go

  1. Nice poem. I love the rhythm and also the male point of view. In my opinion (and I’m sure I’m not the only woman thinking this) I tend to think that guys don’t really care about the emotional element of sex. They’re just “cool” about it.
Your poem certainly set me straight on this.

Good enough to take home at night

Not enough to stay in the day

    Nice line 🙂

    • Thank you, Carol. I’m really glad you liked it. I was trying to tell the story of a man who is finally starting to see the error in his ways, the pointlessness of his actions, by him actually giving some true thought to what he’s doing/done. He begins to see the big picture of his life, hence the question: What am I doing this for? After a certain point in time, I believe meaningless sex becomes just that, meaningless. It loses it’s allure and becomes kind of been there, done that. So, what’s the point.

The call “Wake up, baby.” begins to hold two different meanings for the man. The first, to wake him because he really has to go, the second, to wake him up to what he’s doing with his life.
