Back in the Chair

For the last couple of years, I’ve had an on again off again relationship with writing and I’ve made a lot of music and rendered a lot of 3D illustrations in the meantime.

I’m always creating something.

I was still telling stories, just they were not through books but sound and imagery instead.

Been doing a lot of reading as of late. Stephen King to be telling. Funny, when I was younger it was hard for me to get into many of his books. A lot of the details and back story he gave about his characters and settings seemed so unnecessary to my young writer’s mind at that time. Now though, those the are the same exact things that I love about his writing now.

I’ve read The Mist, Carrie, Fire Starter, and now I’ve just begun to dig into Under The Dome. I’ve enjoyed each story, especially The Mist and Carrie. I was a fan of both film adaptations, and now, I’m a fan of the books, the Original Source Material.

Needless to say, I’ve been inspired to get back to my own writing. Back to wanting to make readers feel for my characters just as Mr. King has made me feel for his. I was really touched by Carrie, especially the last moments leading up to her death. They way her mind was, unbeknownst to her, reaching out and effecting the minds of other characters telepathically. That was a bit of a treat for me, because as far as I know, there is no hint of that in the film. So, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that Carrie had both Telekinetic and budding Telepathic abilities.

I’ve fallen back in love with narration, story telling, seeing the same scene from different character points of view, the sharing of back story and character inner thoughts that flow so fluidly, weaving in and out of present events, to ultimately shape a fictional world, tell a full story, and reveal the layered depths of a range of characters, not just the Protagonist and Antagonist.

I’ve been inspired to get back to my own writing

I’ve started back on my thriller titled Cadaver Dog, the story about a young girl who stumbles across a serial killer and his latest victim. It’s been fun meeting all the characters again, both good and evil, and adding to their depths with a couple rewritten sections here and there. I’m excited about writing again. I’m excited my writing again to be exact. I even felt the need to write this post.

So now, my laptop is back on the desk, I’m back in the chair, and I have a lot of stories to tell.

More to come.
